Best Dorm

McNutt residents live the high life in IU’s northwest neighborhood

The northwest neighborhood is home to some prestigious institutions: Assembly Hall, the Kelley School of Business and the School of Public & Environmental Affairs. And it’s now home to this year’s most popular IU dormitory: McNutt Residence Center.

McNutt is a coed residence hall that is located at 1101 N. Fee Lane. Or, as the typical IU student thinks of it, that dorm “at the top of that giant hill on Fee and on the left.”

The building is made up of six, five-story buildings. It is split up into two courtyards, three buildings on each side, and in the middle is one central service building.

The North  Courtyard consists of buildings Bryan, Crone and Bordner, and the South Courtyard consists of buildings Dejoya, Bocobo and Delgado.

McNutt is an air-conditioned facility and provides mostly double rooms with the occasional single and triple-room per floor.

The central building offers a variety of services that students living in the dorm as well as off campus can access. The top level of the service building is home to the offices of certain freshman advisers and has a large lobby used for meetings and studying.

The main level of the central building consists of computers, an ATM and the dorm’s mailroom. The most popular attraction of the main level is the newly remodeled Hoosier Cafe and convenience store.

In the basement of McNutt is where students can find computer labs, multiple music practice rooms and classrooms. Another popular item in the basement is McNutt’s “Movies, Music and More,” where students are able to check out items by using their student IDs.

“Living in McNutt has given me so many opportunities to fully enjoy the dorm experience,” said freshman Sarah Turner, “The walk to campus isn’t bad, the SRSC is fairly close and Gresham is only across the street. I’ve met so many amazing people through living here. I’m definitely not ready to leave!”
