Curtains open at MAC for IU Symphonic Band, Orchestra

The Musical Arts Center will be filled with sounds of strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion for two days only.

The Jacobs School of Music Concert and Symphonic Bands will perform at 8 p.m. today, and the Symphonic Orchestra will perform at 8 p.m. tomorrow.

Both live performances are free and open to the public.

Conducted by Paul Popiel, the Concert Band will perform four pieces, including a five-movement piece “Old Home Days Suite.” Under the direction of Jeffrey Gersham the Symphonic Band will play four songs.

Conductor Matthew Holzner will lead the band in their final song, “Incantation and Dance.”
The IU Symphonic Orchestra, directed by Cliff Colnot, will be performing “Im Sommerwind” and “Symphony No. 5 in D Minor, Op. 47”
