Flaming Lips to headline Little 500 concert

Union Board announced Sunday that The Flaming Lips will perform for the board’s official Little 500 concert at 8 p.m. April 22 at the IU Auditorium.

Junior James Still, Union Board concerts director, said the idea to bring the band to Bloomington had been in the works for a while.

“When we first got the opportunity to get them, everyone was immediately up for it,” Still said. “Their concerts are really wild. It should be a great time for students.”

Still said The Flaming Lips have a reputation of being one of the most entertaining live concerts in the music industry. They have been nominated for six Grammy Awards and their latest album, Embryonic, was rated the number two best album of 2009 by MTV News. Still said he is excited to have them in Bloomington for Little 500, saying the band fits right into the festivities.

IU Bloomington student pre-sale tickets go on sale 10 a.m. Wednesday for $36 at IUauditorium.com. Ticket sales to the general public begin at 10 a.m. Thursday for $42.50 at the IU Auditorium box office, IUauditorium.com and Ticketmaster.com. Bursar billing is available.
