Even with no paid staff members, the John Waldron Arts Center is keeping its doors open – for now.
On Tuesday, Aaron Platt, volunteer coordinator for the Bloomington Area Arts Council, led a call-out meeting for volunteers to help run the Waldron. Twenty-six people attended, Platt said, and 22 signed up to become volunteers.
“We are currently organizing information and creating a more detailed schedule,” Platt said.
Weekly volunteer meetings, open to the public, will take place 5:30 p.m. every Tuesday at the Waldron.
Despite the financial woes, a new exhibition will open 5 p.m. Friday at the arts center. The work of the BAAC’s original founder, Elli Barnstone, will be on display through Feb. 27. The opening reception coincides with downtown Bloomington’s “First Friday of the Month” program.
