The IU softball team (6-19) travels to Indiana State (11-12) today, looking to end its current 10-game slump.
The Hoosiers last played and defeated the Sycamores 5-4 on March 26, 2009.
“Already beating them in September gives us the inner-confidence that we can beat them again,” sophomore infielder Samantha Berenter said.
Today’s game is IU’s last against a non-conference team until they start Big Ten play starts against Iowa this weekend.
“We’ve been focusing a lot on working together as a team, which will be vital for the game,” senior pitcher Monica Wright said.
Senior outfielder Jennifer Glueckert leads the Hoosiers with a .328 batting average.
On the pitching side, junior pitcher Sara Olson will mostly likely get the start with her team-low 3.61 ERA.
“Pitching and defense could potentially win games, but if we keep people off base, it will definitely help,” Wright said.
The Sycamores have four players in their starting lineup with a batting average better than .300 on the season.
Senior pitcher Meagan McCurdy leads the Sycamores with a 1.28 ERA and 85 strikeouts on the year.
A five-day rest, helped by postponed games due to rain, could help IU with today’s game.
