Joshua Bell to perform benefit recital April 13

Grammy Award-winning violinist and faculty member Joshua Bell will join pianist Sam Haywood during a benefit recital at 8 p.m. April 13 at the Musical Arts Center.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for full-time students with valid ID and will be on sale at the MAC box office starting March 29. Tickets can only be purchased with cash or by check made out to “Indiana University Foundation.” No phone orders will be accepted.

The concert will raise money for the local Monroe County Community School Corporation’s elementary school instrumental music programs.

Songs to be performed will include the “Sonata for Violin and Keyboard in E Major” by J. S. Bach, the “Sonata for Violin and Piano, No. 7 in C Minor” by Beethoven and the “Violin Sonata” by Ravel.

Bell, born in Bloomington, began playing the violin at four years old. After graduating two years early from Bloomington High School North, Bell attended IU to study violin with Josef Gingold.

Recently, Bell performed with a diverse range of artists on his latest recording, “At Home With Friends,” featuring Chris Botti, Sting, Josh Groban and more.
MAC box office hours are 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
