Fisher signs with Colts

The Indianapolis Colts were able to sign both of their seventh-round picks this week, one being former Hoosier Ray Fisher. Fisher spent three years as wide receiver before switching to defensive back his senior season. He recorded 118 catches for 1,070 yards and nine touchdowns during his three seasons on offense.

Fisher also was successful as a kick returner, averaging 36.1 yards per return and running back two touchdowns.

Fisher, along with linebacker Kavell Conner from Clemson, were the first two picks to sign with the team.

Pont honored in HOF

John Pont, the coach who took the Hoosiers to the 1968 Rose Bowl, the first bowl in team history, was honored with a banner in the Indiana College Football Hall of Fame earlier this week.

Pont coached at IU from 1965 to 1972 and led the Hoosiers to a record of 35-51-1. Following the Hoosiers’ Rose Bowl loss in 1968,  Pont was also named the coach of the year by the American Football Coaches Association and Football Writers Association of America.

Bone marrow disease claimed his life in July 2008.
