Menomena’s mellowed out indie rock

menono

If you’re looking to get your fix of some smooth indie rock tunes, Menomena’s fourth LP, “Mines,” might be just what you’re looking for.

Though this newest album isn’t the first thing I’d recommend searching for on the shelves, Menomena offers 11 tracks infused with pummeling percussion, baritone sax, solid guitar jumps and soothing piano.

Despite the fact that the lyrics of some of the tracks might seem a bit repetitive, the consistent beat comes across as rhythmically therapeutic.

The album opens up with “Queen Black Acid,” setting the tone for the remainder of the play list: mellow, surprisingly catchy and somewhat emotional.

But Menomena’s last song on the album, “Intil,” is the one that makes the favorites list. Again, the lyrics are a bit monotonous — but with its classic coffee-shop feel, it’s perfect for a relaxed escape from loud nonsense.
