Basketball recruiting class takes shape
IU coach Tom Crean earned two verbal commitments in August for his 2012 class. Peter Jurkin, a 7-foot center from Sudan, committed to IU in early August and was recently ranked No. 37 on ESPNU’s Super 60 rankings.

Ron Patterson, a 6-foot-3-inch four-star guard from Indianapolis, added his pledge on Aug. 15. The IU coaching staff continues to pursue several highly-ranked in-state recruits for the 2012 class.

Zeller narrows list
Cody Zeller, Crean’s top recruiting target for 2011, narrowed his list of potential schools to three, including IU. The 6-foot-10-inch power forward from Washington, Ind. is ranked nationally as the No. 35 recruit by Rivals.com and is now only considering Butler, North Carolina and IU.

Memorial Stadium adds new scoreboard
IU Athletics began installing a state-of-the-art video scoreboard at the south end of Memorial Stadium in July. The 36-foot-by-91-foot high-definition video board has wall-to-wall video and includes features, stats and graphics. The scoreboard cost $3 million.

Football recruiting class expands
The IU football team is assembling its 2011 recruiting class as quickly as anyone in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers currently have 21 commitments for 2011, including two four-star prospects and 13 three-star players.

The head start is a welcome one for IU coach Bill Lynch, who in the past has had to scramble to fill many of his rosters for the following season at the signing day deadline.
