Gleeks came together Tuesday for the season premiere of Fox’s television comedy series “glee” at the Bishop.
Only eight people showed up, but numbers weren’t the point of the project.
Marc Tschida, marketing associate with the IU Department of Theatre and Drama, said that they didn’t know what to expect.
“This was a low-key and cheap way for theater people to socialize,” he said.
Graduate student Carrie Winschip, a Student Advisory Board treasurer, said the board came to represent the event that they sponsored.
She has been participating in theater for about eight years, but doesn’t consider herself a fully fledged gleek, a person defined by loving the TV show “glee.”
“I think high school students can relate some to ‘glee,’” she said. “The show is about finding your own place in high school.”
Bishop owner Stephen Westrich said this screening isn’t a normal event for The Bishop because 95 percent of the venue’s booked events are live music, and he himself has never seen “glee.”
At 7 p.m., an episode from last season was shown as a warm up to the 8 p.m. start of the main event, but at times the room was full of discussion about the twists and turns of last season.
“This was to try to get more people to come out,” Winschip said, “it’s fun to come out into the community.”
