Leary avoids prison time for fraud

Former IU basketball player and radio commentator Todd Leary avoided prison time when an Allen County judge lightened the sentence related to Leary’s mortgage fraud scheme.

Instead of jail time, Leary will complete two years of work release or home detention and follow that with two years of probation.

Leary, 39, still faces a possible prison sentence on unrelated charges of stealing high-end appliances from foreclosed homes in the Noblesville, Ind., area. He entered a not guilty plea Sept. 2 for those charges.

Leary was arrested on the fraud charges in February as he arrived at Assembly Hall to broadcast the IU-Purdue men’s basketball game.
