Perea commits to IU

Men’s basketball recruit Hanner Perea has committed to IU, the IDS confirmed Sunday.

Perea is ranked No. 10 in the nation for the 2012 recruiting class by rivals.com.

A junior at La Lumiere School in LaPorte, Ind., Perea was also considering Baylor in his final decision.

Questions arose regarding Baylor coach Scott Drew’s tactics in recruiting the 6-foot-8 forward. Drew allegedly exchanged prohibited text messages with Perea’s high school and Indiana Elite AAU coaches.

A native of Colombia, Perea was in attendance at Friday’s “Night of the Living Red” scrimmage along with 2011 prospect Cody Zeller.
