Rundgren to perform biographical concert today

Todd Rundgren

Seventies rockstar and current Wells’ Scholar Professor Todd Rundgren will be performing a biographical concert entitled “CLUSTER: Birth of the T Chord” at 8 p.m. today at Auer Hall in the Jacobs School of Music.

This is the first time in years that Rundgren will be performing solo because of a lack of any material for a solo musician and a solo instrument.

“I still only know the songs that I know, and most of what I’ll be presenting is retrospective, there won’t be a lot of new material, probably won’t be any new material,” Rundgren said.

Rundgren said throughout his performance he will explain certain aspects of his songwriting as well as his music.

“In my mind, this event is a combination of performance but also a little of explanation about my song-writing process and more importantly my particular harmonics and how that got developed and where it is exhibited in my music,” he said. “Less than being a straight ahead concert or recital, it’s going to be a lot of talking.”

Music professor Glenn Gass encourages students to attend Rundgren’s recital. Of all of Rundgren’s appearances on campus, Gass said this is the one to go to.

“He is a musician, the concert is the real event,” Gass said.
