Fashion show to raise money for Pakistani floods

The “Fashion for Flood Relief” fashion show aims to raise awareness and donations to aid in relief for the 2010 floods in Pakistan.

The event will start at 5 p.m. today in the Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center’s Grand Hall and is a collaboration between Union Board Outreach, Pakistani Student Association and the Hutton Honors College.

Tickets for the event are $7.

Fashion show coordinator and senior Syma Raza said she is excited to showcase her Pakistani culture.

“Fashion is always changing in Pakistan, and the textile industry is huge there,” Raza said.

The fashion show will feature traditional Pakistani attire and performances by Incognito hip-hop group at 6 p.m. and the IU HoosierRaas dance team at 6:45 p.m. before the fashion show.

“We want to build awareness,” Raza said. “More than 20 million people were affected by this, and hopefully we’ll raise a lot of money to donate to the Edhi Foundation.”
