Yeagley, Bruin honored with Big Ten awards

Mens Soccer v. Northwestern

The night before IU was scheduled to take the field against Penn State, seven players and coach Todd Yeagley claimed conference awards at the Big Ten Banquet in State College, Pa., the site of this year’s Big Ten Tournament.

Bruin Big Ten’s best

Junior forward Will Bruin was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year on Thursday at the banquet.

His 15 goals in 17 games is good enough for a tie for second place in the nation with Michigan’s Soony Saad and is only two goals shy of the national lead.

Bruin is a three-time Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week

Bruin is a unanimous All-Big Ten first team selection and was joined on the team by seniors Andy Adlard and Rich Balchan. Bruin finished the year with 15 goals, 33 points, 84 shots and 42 shots on goal.

With 16 starts, junior defender Tommy Meyer picked up second team honors after helping the team record three shutouts.

Yeagley honored

In his first year as coach of the Hoosiers, Todd Yeagley roped in Big Ten Coach of the Year honors after guiding his team to a 9-6-2 record with a 4-1-1 mark in conference play, which was good enough for the regular season conference title and the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten Tournament.

Six of the Hoosiers’ nine wins came against ranked opponents this year, most recently against Michigan State where the Hoosiers topped the Spartans 3-0
on the road.

A good sportsman

Sophomore defender Caleb Konstanski took the Indiana Sportsmanship Award for his demeanor and sportsmanship. The Bloomington native’s lone career goal was the game-winner against Michigan in a 2-1 win.

Freshmen Jacob Bushue, Nikita Kotlov and Harrison Petts all earned All-Freshman honors Thursday.
