Philanthropists donate $250,000 to IU Cinema lecture series

Philanthropists Jane and Jay Jorgensen  will give $250,000 to fund a new lecture series for the IU Cinema, which is scheduled to open next month.

The “Jorgensen Guest Filmmaker Lecture Series” will bring well-known filmmakers and industry leaders to campus this spring including directors Kenneth Anger from “Scorpio Rising,” Jill Godmilow from “What Farocki Taught,” Albert Maysles from “Grey Gardens,” David Anspaugh from “Hoosiers,” Stanley Nelson from “Freedom Riders” and Peter Bogdanovich from “The Last Picture Show.”

The Peter Bogdanovich Collection, consisting of papers, scripts, films and more is also housed in the Lilly Library.

The spring schedule also welcomes “The Shawshank Redemption” art director Terence Marsh, “Hoosiers” screenwriter/producer Angelo Pizzo and Jonathan Sehring, president of IFC Films.

Jane Jorgensen is a 1972 IU graduate and Jay Jorgensen graduated from IU-Purdue University Fort Wayne in 1972. Both have actively promoted the IU Cinema including a previous $100,000 donation to the remodeling of the building’s new lobby. The Cinema has bestowed it the “Jorgensen Lobby” on their behalf.
