Abstract artist at The Venue

The Venue Fine Art & Gifts will sponsor a closing reception for abstract artist Marco Zehrung at 6 p.m.  Friday.

Originally from California, Zehrung moved to the Midwest to attend IU. Once in Indiana, he began painting with vibrant acrylic paints to express memories of his home. Some of his works resemble the sand and surf of the West Coast.

“It’s abstract. It’s very colorful and California-inspired even though he’s a Hoosier,” assistant curator David Colman said.

In 2001, Zehrung began entering art contests and showing his artwork at galleries. Zehrung has gained notoriety at galleries for his colors and affordability.

“Marco was probably the biggest seller we’ve had in quantity,” Colman said. “The reason it sells is because it is affordable. Other artists would charge higher prices for the sizes of
his artwork.”

For the closing reception, Zehrung will be in the gallery to meet guests. Wine and cheese will be served.
