Gladstein Invitational to provide strong competition

The Hoosiers will be tested early in the season, playing host to Louisville and Southern Illinois.

Senior shot putter Faith Sherrill, who already shattered two Big Ten records, will be facing off against formidable competition in Louisville’s two-time NCAA Weight Throwing Champion D’Ana McCarty.

Coach Ron Helmer said this will be a good test for the Hoosiers. He said the team needs to break out of the shadows of individuals who are progressing at a high level, such as Faith Sherrill and Kind Butler.

“It will be a great meet,” Helmer said. “I would definitely like to see more out of more individuals so that the team wouldn’t be defined by individuals.”

Sprinter and long jumper Joshua Moore said he wants to do just that. He said he needs to step up his game and do more after coming in fourth in the 400-meters and the long jump at the Indiana Open.

“I can do great things,” Moore said. “I want to help my team as much as I can, as all the little things matter, and I just want to get better at those things.”
The Gladstein Invitational will take place at the Gladstein Fieldhouse on Friday and Saturday.
