Sherrill looks to repeat record-breaking performance

IU will be going up against its in-state rival Saturday as the track and field squad travels to West Lafayette to face off against Purdue at 2 p.m.

IU is looking for its first all-around team win of the season, since the Indiana Open was an individual trial meet.

Senior Faith Sherrill shot put her way into the record books when she broke a previous Big Ten record with her throw of 18.00 meters.

“I have high expectations for myself,” Sherrill said about this past week’s performance.
“Being confident in what I do allows me to deal with the pressure and the expectations that people have of me.”

Sherrill said she believes she is immune to any pressure that comes with trying to replicate her record-breaking performance from last week.

“It will be a big win to beat our rivals in Purdue,” Sherrill said. “But staying consistent and getting better for myself is what I am trying to accomplish, so Purdue will just be another team come Saturday.”

Coach Ron Helmer reiterated Sherrill’s feelings about the upcoming rivalry game.

“To me, it is just the 15th of January,” Helmer said. “Sherrill’s performance last week was great, but she needs to work hard and be consistent and replicate that when we get to the Big Ten championships.”
