Waldron to offer more classes

Now that Ivy Tech has become familiar with the neighborhood, the community college is ready to enhance opportunities at the John Waldron Arts Center.

After only offering one class last semester, Ivy Tech will now offer two college-credit courses in ceramics and sculptures at the Waldron for credit and noncredit students.

Ivy Tech plans to eventually transfer most of its art classes to the Waldron location once Third Street construction is complete, which would make the commute from east to west Bloomington easier for students.

Originally Bloomington’s first city hall, the building became the John Waldron Arts Center after it was bought by the Bloomington Area Arts Council and named after benefactor Cecil Waldron’s late husband’s grandfather.

Ivy Tech purchased the Waldron Arts Center in May 2010 , and the latter has remained a center for the arts. It serves as a space for plays, concerts and art galleries. Waldron is also home to Ivy Arts for Kids, a year–round program designed for children ages 4-12.
