IU handed first loss

The No. 44 IU women’s tennis team went 2-1 at home this weekend, losing 7-0 to No. 6 Duke on Friday before posting wins Sunday against Butler and Memphis.

The Hoosiers (7-1) lost all three doubles matches against the Blue Devils and won only one set during singles play, with junior Evgeniya Vertesheva taking a set from No. 71 Elizabeth Plotkin at No. 2 singles.

IU defeated Butler 7-0 in Sunday’s first match, winning two of three doubles matches and all six singles matches. Seniors Katya Zapadalova and Myriam Sopel beat their respective opponents 6-0, 6-0.

The Hoosiers then defeated Memphis 5-2 to finish out the weekend.
