Student to show documentary about New Orleans oil spill

IU graduate student Ahmed Hamada will show his documentary, “Coming up for Air,” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Ernie Pyle School of Journalism.

The 10-minute documentary was filmed in New Orleans and investigates the aftermath of the BP oil spill and its effects on the restaurant culture and cuisine.

The oil spill took place right off the Gulf Coast when an oil rig exploded. An estimated 4.9 million barrels pervaded 5,000 feet below the surface of the Gulf of Mexico.

After months of cleaning and inspection, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reopened federal waters along Louisiana’s coast for fishing in October 2010.

Hamada will give a short presentation and take questions after the screening.
All are welcome and refreshments will be available.
