Sublime Design Gallery and Gifts to display works of six local artists

Wood, stone and metal are all on display at Sublime Design Gallery and Gifts from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.

The art show “Wood, Stone and Metal,” will display the work of six local
artists.

Owner Carol Hedin and her husband Mark Hedin are two of the artists showing their pieces.

Carol creates wood, stone and metal sculptures. Mark will share his collection of sculptures and wood tables.

“Sometimes Mark and I work together,” Carol said. “I’ll use paper and draw simple and abstract designs, or maybe I’ll draw an animal, like a peacock. The drawings are very colorful. Then I will cut them out and put a thick finish on them. Mark will make a table or a mirror and these are used to decorate them.”

Carol also makes light switches and outlet covers with these designs on them.

Carol said she opened Sublime Design as a space to work and display her art. With help from her mother — also her business partner — Sublime Design was born.

“I’ve been doing craft fairs and my work for about 10 years now. It started growing, and I need an outlet for it,” Carol said.

The space consists of a gallery, and it also has a back room that Carol refers to as “The Vintage Room.”

Here, jewelry, glass pieces and other small items are sold. Some of these items are vintage while others are original works.

“It’s an eclectic mix,” Carol said.

Right now, the jewelry is discounted for a Valentine’s Day-inspired sale.

Artists James Conner and David Reuter are also showing their work Friday at “Wood, Stone and Metal.”

“James Conner did a life-size stone sculpture that’s absolutely beautiful, and David Reuter has some great wall-size mirrors,” Carol said.

Other artists showing Friday include David Day and Mark Oberting.

Day creates wooden jewelry boxes with wood cut down from his own land, and Oberting works with a different medium building metal sculptures.
