In middle school health class, every student gets “the talk.” The birds and the bees, anatomically correct drawings and honest answers to our most prying questions are attended to.
But what happens when those students grow up? What happens when they want access to more sexuality education?
Kathleen Baldwin, a sexuality educator for 25 years and relationship coach for four, will answer those questions Tuesday at The Venue Fine Art and Gifts.
Her presentation, “The Art of Sensual Pleasure,” will help participants explore erotic smells, tastes, sounds and sensations.
“People oftentimes don’t have access to information, so this helps them get the information they need.” Baldwin said. “People’s sexual response changes with age, but they don’t know that because they don’t have the resources.”
With a history in social justice, Baldwin became passionate about sexuality issues.
This served as a transition to Planned Parenthood, where Baldwin became the leader of sexuality education.
Baldwin’s presentation will include a sampling of sounds and music. Playing everything from light guitar music to contemporary rap, Baldwin said she hopes people will find something that speaks to them.
She’ll also have a number of sensual snacks and items people can take home.
Marcy Skelton, a friend of Baldwin’s, has donated several historical “love potions” for the presentation. Worn by Cleopatra and Napoleon, participants will learn how these love potions were made and their historical significance.
“Some are spicy and others are warm.” Baldwin said. “It’s about learning what you like. It’s unique to each of us.”
All participants must be at least 18. Baldwin said she believes the presentation will benefit anyone who attends.
“It benefits everyone when we talk about sexuality,” Baldwin said. “It’s always beneficial to have some practice and learn what you like. We don’t do that often enough.”
