Former IU quarterback dies of leukemia at 44

Former IU quarterback Dave Schnell died of leukemia Sunday in Elkhart, Ind. at age 44.

Schnell led the Hoosiers to victory in the 1988 Liberty Bowl, of which he earned MVP honors, as well as in two other bowl games during his collegiate career.

Prior to his arrival in Bloomington, Schnell was an All-America quarterback prospect at Elkhart Central High School.

He was inducted last year into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame.
