Crean introduces Cheaney at press conference

IU coach Tom Crean said in his inaugural coaching year, Calbert Cheaney visited IU six times.

On Monday, Cheaney came back again. However this time, it will be for a
longer stay.

Crean introduced Cheaney as the Director of Basketball Operations. Cheaney will not be able to coach or assist in practice, and his duties will be mostly administrative. But bringing him back fulfills one of the goals Crean set when he came to IU: to encourage former Hoosiers to come back to their alma mater.

“I really enjoy teaching and trying to transfer some of my knowledge to help players grow as players and as people,” Cheaney said during the press conference. “That is how I was raised and taught; it is only fitting to give that type of knowledge to other people.”

Crean first announced the hire at his Father/Son camp last week.

Cheaney is the IU record holder for most field goals made and is a member of the IU Athletics Hall of Fame.
