After her team defeated Big Ten foe Northwestern last Friday, goalkeeper Maggie Olson was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Tuesday.
“She gives the team a lot of confidence,” IU Coach Amy Robertson said. “She keeps them organized. She’s talking, and she’s executing. She’s where she needs to be.”
Olson made nine saves against the Wildcats, allowing one goal.
As a freshman, Olson leads the Big Ten in goals against average (.089) and in save percentage (.833).
After an early competition for the starting role with graduate student Vicki Greene, it seems as though it’s Olson’s job to lose. She will be in the cage Friday as the Hoosiers travel to Columbus, Ohio, to take on Ohio State.
“She’s making great decisions,” Robertson said. “She has this personality. She’s very relaxed, but she’s game ready. You can tell in her eyes.”
