Roberts named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

D'angelo Roberts

After leading the Hoosiers with 102 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown in Saturday’s victory against South Carolina State, true freshman running back D’Angelo Roberts was announced Monday as the Big Ten Freshman of the Week.

Roberts is the second Hoosier ever to win the honor. The other was his teammate and sophomore kicker Mitch Ewald, who won it on Nov. 29 last season following IU’s defeat of Purdue.

Before Roberts’ performance against the Bulldogs, an IU true freshman had not had a 100-yard rushing game since BenJarvus Green-Ellis against Purdue in 2003. There have now been eight 100-yard games all time by IU true freshmen
.
For the season, the Bloomington North High School graduate has 150 yards on the ground to lead the  team. He is averaging five yards a carry.
