Golfer’s bag more than just a piece of luggage on course

From the moment senior Chase Wright of the IU golf team steps onto the tee box until the sound of the ball dropping into the 18th hole, he always has a constant companion: his golf bag.

Inside the bag are the tools he needs to keep up his 72.67 scoring average for the season thus far. Each item inside is imperative to play the game.

Wright’s golf bag does not include Dad’s old wooden clubs or the plastic play set from the backyard. Inside his bag is everything Callaway, a popular golf equipment brand that supports the IU men’s golf team.

When he was fitted for new golf clubs last April, his whole game changed. Wright hits balls with his Callaway Razr Hawk Tour Driver about 300 yards, more consistently than he did with his old driver, despite his previous doubts about the club.

Taking a peep into Wright’s golf bag, there are some mysterious tools, such as the yardage book, which not every golfer uses in his Sunday afternoon round of 18.

On Wright’s bag is the IU emblem, a symbol of the University he will represent in at least 10 events for the 2011 – 2012 season.

Regardless of all the gizmos and gadgets inside his bag, he plays to improve as an individual and to take the Hoosiers to victory week after week.
