Senior Jaclyn Zamudio couldn’t let her team lose twice at home in one weekend. After their first home loss of the season, the Hoosiers bounced back.
IU topped Michigan State, 4-2, in its final home game of the season, just two days after falling to Penn State, 6-2.
Against the Nittany Lions on Friday, the Hoosiers couldn’t find the back of the net.
“We had a lot (of shots) just trickle by the posts, hit posts,” junior forward Morgan Fleetwood said. “We were in those positions. It was just not on our side
today.”
IU got back on track Senior Day against Michigan State on Sunday.
In a fitting end, the senior forwards carried the team. Jaclyn Zamudio scored two goals and Brenna Moeljadi scored another. Fleetwood recorded the fourth goal for IU.
“I’m so happy for our seniors,” IU Coach Amy Robertson said in an interview with IU athletics. “They’ve worked so hard. They have given so much to this program. It’s wonderful to honor our seniors with a big win today.”
After the Spartans tied the game 2-2 in the 39th minute, the rest of the game was dominated by the IU offense. Fleetwood’s score came on a second-attempt shot to give the Hoosiers a 3-2 edge. Zamudio netted her goal in the 64th minute after a tipped pass from senior forward Katie Griswold.
“It’s the way you want to finish, with a win,” Robertson said. “It wasn’t the prettiest game. I think the Penn State game took a lot out of us, but I’m really proud of the this team and the character that they showed and the
resiliency they had.”
