THE RESULT:
In the last week, the IU women’s volleyball team lost to both No. 8 Purdue on Wednesday at home and No. 19 Minnesota on the road Friday.
With the two losses, the Hoosiers finished their season with a 1-19 record in the Big Ten Conference.
THE ACTION:
The night before Thanksgiving, the IU women’s volleyball team lost its final home match to in-state rival Purdue in four sets.
The Hoosiers jumped out to a quick start, winning the first set against the Boilermakers. Junior right-side hitter Kelci Marschall and graduate student right-side hitter Kristen Seaton led the Hoosiers in the first set with five and four kills, respectively, as IU never trailed in the first set.
Unfortunately for the crimson and cream, the Boilermakers came charging back to win the next three sets. Led by Ariel Turner, who recorded 25 kills, Purdue hit .403 as a team.
In the final home game of their careers, Seaton and senior libero Caitlin Cox said farewell to University Gym with a bang. Seaton recorded a team-high 14 kills, while Cox posted a team-high 17 digs.
While the seniors made their mark in the last home game, sophomore outside hitter Jade Henderson and junior setter Whitney Granado played key roles for the Hoosiers. Henderson recorded a career-high 11 kills, and Granado posted a double-double with 26 assists and 12 digs.
Friday night, the Hoosiers closed their season by falling to Minnesota in Minneapolis.
Overall, IU posted a .020 hitting percentage. Freshman middle blocker Morgan Leach ended her season by leading the Hoosiers with seven kills against Minnesota.
