Not wholly 'Horseshit'

gymclas

On this sequel to 2005’s “The Papercut Chronicles,” frontman Travie McCoy bangs together heavy metal, rap and twitchy turntables like a wind-up monkey. Big mistake if he really wanted to be a billionaire so frickin’ bad.

This LP isn’t saying much about the band’s musical evolution. Travie McCoy goes on a self-deprecating spree on tracks like “Holy Horseshit, Batman!!” and “Nil-Nil-Draw,” which has a Slim Shady reminiscence to it.

Maroon 5’s Adam Levine and British singer Neon Hitch do some oh-oh-oh-oh-ing in “Stereo Hearts” and “Ass Back Home,” respectively, adding the infectious hooks that pop songs produce so darn well. Ryan Tedder of One Republic steps into the ring delivering a knockout track called “The Fighter,” while Oh Land steps in for “Life Goes On."

While the band does get props for working so well with collaborators, the Gym Class Heroes still have some working out to do.
