Women’s golf team wraps up fall with 10th place finish in Austin

Result:
After three tough rounds at the Challenge at Onion Creek in Austin, Texas, the IU women’s golf team ended its fall season with a 10th-place finish.

The Action:
The Hoosiers posted 308 in the final round, putting them six strokes behind ninth-place College of Charleston. Texas Tech maintained its lead from the first day to take home the victory with an 874 tournament total.

Junior Rosie Davies finished low for the team with a final-round four-over-par 74 en route to her 226-tournament total. Freshman Elizabeth Tong, who was tied with Davies after the first day, finished four strokes behind Davies to tie for 42nd.

Rounding out the rest of the Hoosiers were junior co-captain Kate Coons, who tied for 47th, junior Pamela Burneski, who tied for 50th, and senior co-captain Kristtini Cain, who tied for 60th.

Key Play:

After finishing five-over-par during the front nine, Davies came back with three birdies during 10, 14 and 16 to offset her two bogeys and finish one-under-par for the back nine. Davies has led the Hoosiers at two other events this season, taking medalist honors at the team’s first event, the IU Fall Kickoff.

Quote of Note:
“It was one of those days where not a lot went our way,” IU Coach Clint Wallman said. “We had some good holes, but, again, when they made mistakes, they proved to be very costly.”

Notable Number:

11 — The number of birdies the team made collectively in the final round of the Challenge at Onion Creek.

Up Next:
With the fall season at a close, the Hoosiers will have a break until February, when they play at their first spring event, the IU Spring Challenge in Parrish, Fla.
