IU alum Jeff Overton donates to IU and Play Golf America

IU alumnus Jeff Overton is giving back to his alma mater. The 2005 graduate is donating $50,000 to support the Play Golf America University program.

Overton will present the donation for the Indiana PGA Section on Saturday during halftime at the Indiana-Kentucky men’s basketball game in Assembly Hall. IU Coach Mike Mayer and Bob Kessler, the Department of Kinesiology Program Coordinator, will receive the contribution.

As a part of the U.S. Ryder Cup team in 2010, Overton and the other members of the squad each donated $50,000 to launch the Ryder Cup Junior Golf Academy and $50,000 to the college or university of their choice for the Play Golf America University program.

Play Golf America University is a program to raise interest and educate students about the game of golf through PGA Professional instruction, as well as other golf programs. The Ryder Cup Outreach program has funded 50 colleges and universities, as well as 149 charities chosen by participating players.
