Artists After Hours brings Bloomington commission

Tonight, the Arts Alliance of Greater Bloomington will present January’s Artists After Hours event, which will feature the City of Bloomington Arts Commission.

The Commission engages in advocacy and programming on behalf of local artists and art organizations, as well as making grants.

The event will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at the Bloomington Playwrights Project, and admission is free and open to the general public.

Members of the Commission will be at the event to hear ideas from the public, as well as to talk about the Bloomington Public Arts Master Plan.

The plan is in the process of being crafted and will help guide efforts of the city and other organizations to encourage artists as well as redefine what constitutes public art.

The Commission said the plan is going to be a long process, and they are seeking as much public input as possible. The plan will be a general overview of what Bloomington is trying to convey as a city in terms of public art.

Since the Commission is in charge of awarding some art grants, local artists are encouraged to attend tonight’s event to receive tips on grant writing and preparing portfolios for public competition submissions.
