Jonsi has always been a man of few words. Few understandable words, at least.
However, since his hiatus from band Sigur Ros, Jonsi has developed his music into a soundtrack composer’s dream come true.
In “We Bought a Zoo,” Jonsi teams up with director Cameron Crowe, who co-wrote the Oscar-nominated track “Gathering Stories.”
The title track “We Bought a Zoo” sounds like a sojourn into the African wild, with escalating rhythms turning into a simple piano melody.
While “Snaerisendar” is extremely reminiscent of Sigur Ros’ elfin sound, other tracks remain humbly instrumental. “Brambles” and “Humming” merge meek keyboard riffs with ethereal symphonic compositions.
Jonsi also repackages three songs from his solo effort “Go,” giving the soundtrack an edgy facet.
“Boy Lillikoi” is a great track with pop-ish hooks alternating between racing percussions and chime-like flutes.
The “We Bought A Zoo” OST ends up being a worthy listen for Sigur Ros and Jonsi fans alike.
