Since Indiana’s 103-89 win against Iowa on Jan. 29, the Hawkeyes went 2-1 before losing to Penn State on Thursday night.
Feb. 1: Iowa 63 Minnesota 59
Senior Matt Gatens had 18 points to lead Iowa, as the Hawkeyes overcame a three-point halftime deficit en route to ending their three-game losing streak. The Hawkeyes were down by as many as 10 during the second half, but ended the game on a 9-0 run.
Feb. 4: Iowa 77
Penn State 64
Iowa jumped out to a 17-point halftime lead and was once again led by 18 points from Gatens. Senior Bryce Cartwright and freshman Aaron White each chipped in 17 points. The Hawkeyes shot 29-of-34 from the free-throw line compared to just 4-of-7 for the Nittany Lions.
Feb. 9: Northwestern 83 Iowa 64
The Wildcats made 13-of-25 3-pointers and had all five of their starters in double figures during the victory.
White had another 17 points, and Gatens had 15 points in the loss. Iowa shot 7-of-14 from 3-point land, but couldn’t overcome 18
turnovers.
Looking back at IU’s win against the Hawkeyes, Gatens had 20 points to lead Iowa. Gatens leads the Hawkeyes in scoring at 14 a game and has been their leading scorer during conference play.
Freshman Josh Oglesby came off the bench to score 24 points on 8-of-12
shooting against the Hoosiers, but has scored a combined seven points on 2-of-12 shooting in the past three games.
Iowa is giving up the Big Ten’s worst, 74.9 points a game, in conference play.
Iowa makes the fewest 3-pointers a game in the Big Ten at 4.6.
