After falling behind 2-0 early in the second half against Notre Dame on Saturday night at Parkview Field in Fort Wayne, the IU men’s soccer team fought back to win 5-4 in overtime after a second half full of goals.
In the 27th minute, junior forward Tim Wylie launched a shot toward the Fighting Irish goal, but the ball flew over the crossbar.
Just two minutes later, the Hoosiers found themselves in a 1-0 hole, and three minutes into the second half, Indiana was down 2-0.
But midfielders freshman Kyle Sparks and junior Joe Tolen brought the Hoosiers back. Just one minute later, Tolen put IU on the board with a header off a cross from Sparks.
The freshman followed up his assist with a goal of his own in the 56th minute, tying the game 2-2.
In the 76th minute, Tolen scored his second goal of the night, again off a header, to bring the Hoosiers back to a tie 3-3, but Indiana found itself behind once again with 2:21 remaining in the match after another Notre Dame goal.
With seven seconds remaining, freshman forward Eriq Zavaleta snuck one past Notre Dame goalkeeper Will Walsh during a scramble in front of the net, sending the 4-4 match into overtime.
In the 96th minute, sophomore midfielder Jacob Bushue sealed the Hoosier victory when he found himself open just eight yards in front of the Fighting Irish goal, sending his shot past Walsh for the game winner.
Indiana will play its final spring season match at 2 p.m. April 29 against the U-20 Mexican National Team at Jerry Yeagley Field.
