MacTaggart earns weekly accolades for 2nd time

Junior Josh MacTaggart performed well this past week, and it’s been noted by the Big Ten. MacTaggart was awarded the Big Ten Men’s Tennis Player of the Week on Tuesday after going 3-0, beating Northwestern, Vincennes and No. 20 Illinois.

He also moved up nine spots in the ITA National Rankings to No. 79. He defeated one unranked and two ranked opponents this past week in the Fighting Illini’s No. 30 Roy Kalmanovich, 6-2, 6-0, Northwestern’s No. 124 Spencer Wolf, 6-2, 6-1, and Vincennes’ Jose Soto, 6-1, 6-1. IU swept Vincennes 7-0.

Mactaggart was also a perfect 3-0 in doubles play this week with fellow junior Alastair Barnes at the No. 2 doubles spot. The duo went 25-14 combined for the three doubles matches.

It’s the second time MacTaggart has won the award this season — he won the award Oct. 26, 2011 — and the third for the Hoosiers. Fellow junior Isade Juneau took home the award Jan. 10, 2012.

MacTaggart and the Hoosiers will play Iowa at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament in Evanston, Ill., on the Northwestern campus.
