Eight Bloomington art galleries participate in the Downtown Bloomington Gallery Walk the first Friday of every month. Here are a few of the many shows that opened this weekend and will be displayed in September and
October.

Captive landscapes and Watershed

pictura gallery

Two shows opened at pictura gallery Friday. Photos in the “Captive Landscapes” series by Daniel Kukla show zoo exhibits without their animal inhabitants. Jeff Rich depicts people and places along the Mississippi River in his photography show “Watershed.” The projects explore the connection between people, animals and their environments. The photos will be on display through Oct. 27.

Garden and Table

The Venue Fine Art & Gifts

Jean Ellen Dutton uses her technical skills to create still life and garden scenes in her watercolor paintings. The Venue organized an opening reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday for Dutton’s show. In addition to painting, Dutton teaches introductory watercolor classes at Ivy Tech Community College’s Center for Lifelong Learning and serves as the president of the Bloomington Watercolor Society. Dutton will give a watercolor demonstration and discussion at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Her paintings will be displayed through Sep. 20. and are available for purchase.

American Wasteland

BENT Hair

Bloomington artist Timothy Paton, also known as TIMSKI, has installed a series of 15 photographs at BENT. BENT owners Reeve Andrews and Caleb Miller organized a reception from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday. TIMSKI contrasts the idea of the “American Dream” with scenes of decay and desolation in his photographs. “In this series my photographs represent a struggle that many face: survival in a sometimes alien land where, for whatever reasons, financial freedom is not a guarantee,” TIMSKI wrote in an artist’s statement. Andrews wanted to showcase the art of cutting hair with the work of other artists, according to the press release.
