From IDS Reports
Forward Troy Williams became the fifth member of the 2013 basketball recruiting class Sunday afternoon, choosing IU instead of North Carolina, his other finalist.
Williams, the No. 37 prospect in the country of the 2013 class, according to Rivals.com, had numerous other offers, as well.
He is the highest-ranked member of IU’s 2013 haul.
Word of an impending commitment began spreading mid-afternoon Sunday. Williams confirmed it on his Twitter account later in the afternoon.
Williams took his official visit to IU during the weekend of Hoosier Hysteria.
His only other official visit was to UNC the prior weekend.
Kentucky was also involved in Williams’ recruitment at one point, but IU emerged as UNC’s main competition after increasing its efforts late in the summer.
A 6-foot-6-inch, 190-pound small forward, Williams attends historic prep basketball powerhouse Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va.
The school annually sends several players to Division I colleges but has never before sent a player to IU.
Williams’ game is predicated on athleticism, and he is known to use his slashing to finish at the basket.
Williams joins fellow forwards Devin Davis and Collin Hartman, center Luke Fischer and guard Stanford Robinson in the 2013 class.
The team might not be done recruiting yet, as it is still in the running for center BeeJay Anya and forward Noah Vonleh, the No. 7 prospect in 2013, according to Rivals.com, after Vonleh recently reclassified from the 2014 class.
There is also an offer out to center Kennedy Meeks, who visited for Hoosier Hysteria, though he is widely believed to have narrowed his college choices to UNC and Georgetown.
