IU drops to 3rd in Las Vegas Showdown

The IU women’s golf team dropped to third place Monday in the second round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.

The team is three strokes behind a first place Central Florida squad.

The final round will be played Tuesday. This is IU’s final tournament of the fall season.
Four Big Ten teams follow UCF in the rankings and are fighting to move up. Penn State sits in second, followed by IU, Wisconsin and Minnesota.

The Hoosiers shot a team total of 307 on a windy second day to push their cumulative score to 599.

Sophomore Elizabeth Tong moved into third place individually, keeping the lead after the first round. She shot a 76 (+4) Monday to put her at two over par for the tournament. She sat at two over par for the second round with just one hole remaining Monday before a double bogey on her last hole hurt her score.

Senior Pamela Burneski shot the best round of the day for the Hoosiers with a three-over 75. She sits in a tie for fourth place in the tournament.

Graduate student Kristen Schelling is the other Hoosier in the top 20 after posting a 77 (+5) Monday to give her a share of 16th place.

Freshman Marissa DeCola and senior Rosie Davies rounded out the five IU players. DeCola shot a 79 (+7) in the second round while Davies posted an 83 (+11) to put her in a tie for 67th.

Even though, UCF pulled into first place, the Hoosiers remain in striking distance as the final day of competition begins at 9:45 a.m. in Las Vegas.
