IU in last place after round 1

FROM IDS REPORTS

After a rough start for the IU men’s golf team at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational on Sunday, the team currently sits 22 strokes behind the opening round leader, California.

IU’s 306 stroke total after one round puts it in 15th place in the 15-team field.

Junior Hugo Menendez led the Hoosiers with a two-over-par 74, putting him in a tie for 22nd on the individual leaderboard. His round included four bogeys with two birdies.

Fellow junior David Mills shot a round of three-over-par 75, including three birdies, to match his single round season-low score.

Senior Corey Ziedonis’ five-over-par 77 and senior Michael McGee’s eight-over-par 80 rounded the Hoosier scoring.

Senior Brant Peaper, who is competing at Isleworth as the No. 1 Hoosier, struggled during his first nine holes, and he could not recover in his second nine, shooting a 13-over-par 85.

Peaper recorded a quadruple bogey on the par-three No. 11, followed by a bogey on No. 12 and back-to-back double bogeys on 13 and 14 to go to nine-over-par after just five holes.

He currently sits in last place, 75th, for the tournament.

Tee times for the Hoosiers during Monady’s round two begin at 9:15 a.m. and run every 10 minutes until 9:55 a.m., and players will tee off on No. 10.
