Kennedy talk launches lecture series

Every artist needs inspiration.

A Time-Life Library of Art book featuring Winslow Homer sparked IU professor Tim Kennedy’s interest in art.

Kennedy discussed his life’s work early Tuesday evening as part of a lecture series preceding the new exhibit “Small is Big,” opening Friday at the Grunwald Gallery of Art.

From the “rebellious” nature of Marcel Duchamp’s sculptures to the still lifes of Giorgio Morandi, Kennedy said his paintings were inspired by many artists.

Kennedy’s work will be displayed alongside the work of four other artists in the new exhibit, which he organized and curated.

All the artwork in the exhibit will be small-scale paintings.

Kennedy said he uses models and objects to paint scenes from his home in recent works.

The Grunwald Gallery has organized an opening reception for the exhibit at 6 p.m. Friday.
