Of more than 1,200 universities throughout the U.S., IU ranks seventh as an internationally engaged academic institution, an improvement from eighth place last year.
According to the Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange, 2,203 IU students studied abroad during the 2010-11 academic year, and IU was home to 6,123 international students during 2011-12.
“We are extremely pleased that while IU-Bloomington remains a leader in both study abroad activities and in international student enrollment, it is also gratifying that more and more students from every IU campus are adding an international dimension to their studies,” IU President Michael McRobbie said in a press release.
The Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange is conducted yearly by the Institute of International Education.
“It is only appropriate that this news comes at a time when IU is entering into new partnership agreements with leading academic institutions in Latin America and elsewhere, which will result in increased study abroad opportunities for IU students,” McRobbie said.
