New intramural sports start this month through IU Recreational Sports.
The intramural futsal season begins today and ends Nov. 14. The sport is similar to soccer.
“Unlike regular indoor soccer, futsal is played between teams of five on a side, including the goalie, on an indoor, hard court surface marked by a boundary line,” Jeremy Shere, RS spokesperson, said in an email. “Also, futsal uses a smaller, less bouncy ball than indoor soccer.”
Shere said one hour of futsal can burn about 500 calories.
The intramural basketball season begins Nov. 11 and ends Nov. 16. Shere said no previous experience is required.
“While some teams are competitive, many teams, such as recreational teams, residence hall teams and co-ed teams, play for fun, fitness and recreation,” he said.
Students can also play dodgeball on men’s, women’s and co-ed teams.
