Talk Normal to perform at Russian Recording

Noise rock band Talk Normal will perform Nov. 17 at Russian Recording.

Doors open at 8 p.m. Future Islands and Dope Body will also perform.

Tickets cost $12 and can be purchased through Spirit of ’68 Promotions at

Friends for several years, Sarah Register and Andrya Ambro formed Talk Normal in Brooklyn in 2007. They initially released demos such as their “Secret Cog” EP.

The female duo released its debut album, “Sugarland,” in 2009.

Since then, Talk Normal has performed with Sonic Youth and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, according to a press release.

Talk Normal released its most recent album, “Sunshine,” in October.

Marc Masters called the album’s sound intense and relentless in a Pitchfork review, despite the fact that the songs are not “especially fast, loud or climatic.”

He rated the album 7.7 out of 10, calling it a “post-punk workout” and describing the vocals as a mix between Karen O and Kim Gordon.

“The end result is a natural sonic cohesion,” the press release said. “Maybe not the sunshine you’re used to, but rays within which you’ll want to bask.”
