Henna 101

Asian Cultural Center

This evening, the Asian Cultural Center will be teaching the ancient Indian art of henna designs. The center teaches basic technique and designs and provides hands-on experience. It is free and open to the public.

Titus

7 p.m. today

IU Cinema

The IU Cinema will be screening the film adaptation, “Titus.” Adapted from Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus, “Titus,” is a “stomach-churning tragedy of revenge and retaliation,” according to IU Cinema’s website. The film follows Titus, a proud Roman general, who has returned home from war with the Goths victorious, but not without costs. The captured Queen of the Goths seeks his ruin and Titus has to confront “the effects of his rigid moral code on his country and his family.” This film is part of Themester 2012’s “Good Behavior, Bad Behavior: Molecules to Morality.”

Songwriter Showcase

8 p.m. today

Players Pub

Almost every Monday, Players Pub features bands and artists from across the country as part of Songwriter Showcase. Tonight, artists John Hegner, Greg Mahan, Zach DuBois and Marc Haggerty will be performing.

Bloomington Jazz

6:45 p.m. Tuesday

Café Django

Recurring on the last Tuesday of every month, Jazz from Bloomington Jam Session at Café Django features prominent jazz artists such as Tom Walsh, Monika Herzig and Jeremy Allen to raise awareness of jazz in the community. The open jam sessions involve students who work on the art of jazz improvisation in small groups, which are then led by experienced jazz educators and performers. The jam sessions are free and open to the public.

Noon Talk

IU Art Museum

This Wednesday’s Noon Talk at the Museum is titled, “Disillusioned: Beckmann in Postwar Berlin.” David Pace, Professor Emeritus of History, will discuss Max Beckmann and his observations of modern life in Weimar, Germany as seen in lithographs from his series, “Trip to Berlin 1922,” in the Gallery of the Art of the Western World, Doris Steinmetz Kellett Endowed Gallery of Twentieth-century Art on the first floor.

Holiday Book Sale

Noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday

IMU Georgian Room

IU Press will present a holiday book sale during which a free copy of “This Is INDIANA: Tom Crean, the Team, and the Exciting Comeback of Hoosier Basketball,” will be given to the first 25 customers each day. The sale offers more than 300 titles to choose from.

Band of Horses

The Bluebird Nightclub

Band of Horses, an alternative rock group, will be performing at the Bluebird Thursday.
Tickets are $32 each.

New Music Ensemble

IU Jacobs School of Music

Directed by David Dzubay, the New Music Ensemble will be performing at the IU Jacobs School of Music. Jeff Nelsen, horn, and John Rommel, trumpet, will be performing. The event is free and open to the public.

Talk with Linda Oblack

7 p.m. Friday

Bloomingfoods Community Room

Linda Oblack, Sponsoring editor of the IU Press new imprint, “Break Away Books,” which focuses on fiction, memoires, creative non-fiction and poetry with a Midwest connection, will be giving a talk about the book. Admission to the talk is free.

Lemonade

Bloomington Playwrights Project

Lemonade, written by Mark Krause, follows an “unfunny comedian and his garbage-sculpting wife,” as they strive for the American dream, according to the Bloomington Playwright Project’s website. Krause, a screenwriter, playwright and cartoonist, has been shortlisted for the Heideman Award, the Princess Grace Award, the Playwrights First Award and the BHTG’s Harris Award. The show debuts Friday but will recur weekly on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. until Dec. 15.
