IU men’s basketball freshman guard Kevin “Yogi” Ferrell was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week after the conference released its list of weekly awards Monday.
The Indianapolis native started Friday in the Hoosiers’ first game of the 2012-13 regular season against Bryant. Ferrell helped the Hoosiers cruise to a 97-54 victory against the Bulldogs at Assembly Hall.
Ferrell notched seven assists, a game-high, to go along with 10 points, five rebounds, one block and one steal in 24 minutes of action. With his start, the Hoosiers have now started a freshman in the team’s last six season openers.
Ferrell and his teammates continue their non-conference schedule 7 p.m. Thursday as they take on Sam Houston State in the second game of the Progressive Legends Classic at Assembly Hall.
