After falling behind late in the second half, the IU men's basketball fought its way back to push the game into overtime, but two late Butler 3-pointers gave the Bulldogs the upset win over the No. 1 Hoosiers 88-86 Saturday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
After leading at halftime 37-33 off of 10 early points from junior guard Victor Oladipo, the Hoosiers continued to hold a comfortable lead that crept to as many as seven points a couple times midway through the second half.
But over the next 4:27, the Bulldogs fought back with a 16-2 run to take a four-point lead of their own. Butler would lead by as many as seven points.
With just 49 seconds remaining and the Hoosiers down three, freshman guard Kevin "Yogi" Ferrell mishandled the ball and saw it bounce off his feet out of bounds, and it looked as though IU's shot at making the comeback had expired.
Ferrell, though, made up for it by scoring five of IU's last seven points, including a 3-pointer to tie the game with just six seconds left to eventually push it into overtime.
IU jumped out to a four-point lead 84-80 midway through the extra period, but two-straight Butler threes gave Butler the lead back for good, as the Hoosiers dropped their first game of the season.
